The Favata House, created in 1960 by noted architect George Nemeny, delves into the spirit of movement by envisioning spaces that flow from an open floorplan, to creating separate intimate living areas with the simple sliding of paneled walls. The two story glass façade bathes the open living space with western light illuminating the two story stone fireplace, floating staircase to a gallery leading to 4 bedrooms, and a yoga/family room with access to a floating stone deck and yard. The addition of an expansive studio off the main living area creates options for living. The original structure, built in 1960 won an AIA Merit award with the jury noting that it was a “disarmingly direct solution…displaying great restraint, with no frills or tricks. The materials are handsomely used and excellently detailed” A beautiful example how space, thoughtfully created, blends organic elements with forethought on how we truly live.
